Commonwealth Games 2018

Queensland’s Gold Coast is set to sizzle with excitement and entertainment this April when the largest sporting event Australia has seen this decade descends upon the glitter strip.

The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) has something for everyone – from the diehard athletics fans, to cycling enthusiasts, lawn bowls buffs and weightlifting supporters. Over 11 incredible days, spectators will have access to world class sporting competition between athletes competing from 77 countries comprising the Commonwealth.

History will also be made. From the 4th of April to the 15th, Beach Volleyball, Para Triathlon and Women’s Rugby Sevens will make their Commonwealth Games debuts.

Additionally, with seven para-sports joining 18 other sports, GC2018 is set to be the largest integrated sports program in Commonwealth Games history.

So where will you be? Watching from the couch, or being there cheering on your favourite Australian athletes striving for gold?

However, the GC2018 means much more to Queensland than a sporting spectacle. There will be opportunities for Queenslanders to be involved in the Commonwealth Games through a broad range of legacy initiatives. While some will compete in GC2018 at the highest level, others will give their time and effort to make the event happen.

Some people will be motivated to take up a sport themselves, others will get involved in organising sports for their community.

As Queenslanders or even visitors, we can all contribute directly or indirectly to building positive and lasting benefits from hosting GC2018. You can visit the Embracing 2018 website at to learn how you can make your mark during this ‘once in a lifetime’ event.

The bustle and pizzazz of the city of Gold Coast is set to be bigger and better than ever whilst the world watches on. From the iconic Surfers Paradise beach to the precincts of Main Beach and Broadbeach and out to the lush, green hinterland, there’s a new experience waiting for you at every turn on the Gold Coast.
