The Ipswich Art Gallery is a must-see attraction in southeast Queensland located in the restored old town hall in the heart of Ipswich Central.
The Gallery presents a program of changing exhibitions and heritage displays, special events, family activities, complimentary performances and art workshops. It is one of the most-visited regional art galleries in Australia.
A unique feature of the Gallery is a dedicated Children’s Gallery, Australia’s first dedicated art gallery for children. It is a place where children can imagine, create and discover.
The Children’s Gallery presents a program of changing exhibitions, activities and events. These exhibitions and programs are designed to reflect children’s interests and provide opportunities for children to make their own art works, discover new ideas, interact with their families and play. Activities allow children to play, solve creative problems and investigate a variety of materials.
The Children’s Gallery is a wheelchair and pram-friendly venue with large internal lifts. The gallery’s friendly volunteers are on hand to help you to find your way around, and to bring your visit alive.
Guided group tours of both the permanent and temporary exhibitions are available. Visitors should allow an hour or two to really enjoy the range of permanent and visiting exhibits, and to allow time for children to interact with various displays.
Ipswich Art Gallery is located in the centre of Ipswich CBD, close to cafes and parks, and just a short walk from Ipswich Railway Station, bus stops and car parks.
Entry to the permanent and long-term exhibits is free, with only a small fee charged for some of the temporary shows. Opening hours are 10am to 5pm daily.
